Make it to Round 2 of NCHSAA Softball Playoffs
In an exciting clash during the 2024 NCHSAA Softball State Championship playoffs, the Pisgah Bears (15-6) triumphed over Central Cabarrus (17-8) in the first round. The Bears sealed the deal with a 9-5 victory, snapping the Central Cabarrus Vikings' three-game winning streak.
Ranked 18th, the Bears showcased their defensive prowess, anchored by pitcher Sadie Messer, who dominated all seven innings. She allowed just four earned runs on eight hits while striking out nine.Â
Sadie Messer's season has been nothing short of spectacular. With 7 wins under her belt and an impressive 125 strikeouts over 94 innings pitched, she's established herself as a force on the mound for the Bears. Her pitching prowess has made her a dynamic player, leaving fans eagerly anticipating her senior season and the excitement she'll bring to the mound.
Reflecting on the season, Messer stated: "My teammates and I had a great season; we had some big defeats and really worked together for those victories. I look forward to next season-being able to build upon the hard work and grow from there."
Offensively, the Bears leaned on Savannah Dickerson during the playoff game, who went 3-for-4, scoring two runs and swiping a base. Jaiden Smith also contributed, going 2-for-3 and scoring a run.
Central Cabarrus, despite the loss, put up a strong fight. Rachel Pressley powered the offense, going 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Peyton Smith added to the effort, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
The Bears' victory set up a thrilling showdown with the undefeated Kings Mountain Mountaineers (20-0) in the second round on Friday. Despite a hard-fought battle, the Bears fell 5-2, propelling the Kings Mountain ladies into the third round against Foard (14-4) on Tuesday, May 14th.
