Pitchers Duel

In a showdown of high school softball powerhouses, the Kings Mountain Mountaineers (18-0) clashed with the Crest Chargers (15-4) on Friday, resulting in a nail-biting 2-1 victory for Kings Mountain. The Mountaineers secured the Big South 3A championship title in a close battle with the Chargers. 


It was a showdown of the arms on the diamond as the pitchers took center stage in a gripping duel. Crest seized an early advantage with a daring play at the plate, as the runner dislodged the ball from the catcher's glove, surging ahead 1-0 in the early stages of the game.

As the night progressed, Kings Mountain rallied back with a leadoff hit and a thunderous triple, leveling the score with a run. The momentum continued as the triple's hitter crossed home plate on a wild pitch, propelling Kings Mountain into the lead in a thrilling turn of events.


Pitching prowess was on full display as Madeline Huffman dominated the mound for all seven innings. Huffman's performance was stellar, allowing just one unearned run on two hits while striking out an impressive 11 batters. Her consistency shone through, having not given up more than one earned run in her last three pitching appearances. For the season, Huffman has thrown 175 K and has an ERA of .67 showcasing her talents on the mound. 


The Mountaineers' offense also contributed, with standout performances at the plate. Kayla McSwain led the charge, going 1-for-3 with a crucial triple, scoring a run, and driving in an RBI.


On the other side, Crest's five-game home winning streak came to an end, dropping their record to 15-4.

For Kings Mountain, this victory marked their 11th consecutive road win, solidifying their undefeated record at 18-0 and showcasing their dominance in high school softball.
