Up Next: 4th Round with Tuscola

In a tightly contested battle, the North Davidson Black Knights emerged victorious over the Foard Tigers with a 2-1 win in the 3rd round of the 2024 NCHSAA Baseball State Championship - 3A. It was a beautiful night for baseball, dominated by stellar pitching on both sides.

The scoreboard remained silent until the top of the fifth when the Tigers broke through with a run off two hits. The Black Knights responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning, plating two runs on three hits to take the lead.

Justin Mabe was electric, throwing 5 innings with 10 strikeouts while allowing just 3 hits. On the offensive side, Kaleb Downey contributed with 2 hits and an RBI, while Carter Beck added a hit and an RBI, helping to secure the North Davidson Black Knights' advance.

Reflecting on the game, Coach Matt Griffin stated:

“We had to match Jenkins and that’s tough to do. You just have to keep grinding at bats and hope to string a couple hits together in an inning because you’re not going to string 4 or 5 together. You may walk somebody, hit somebody, get a big hit and that’s what we did.”

The game mirrored itself in intensity, with both pitchers hitting a batter and issuing a walk late in the game.

"We had to match them on the mound, and our guys did a fantastic job, matching them pitch for pitch, keeping us in the game," said the Black Knights' coach.

Jacob DiBonaventura  has been the Black Knights rock all season, and he proved once again that no situation is too big for him. Coach Matt Griffin expressed that the team couldn’t be more proud of his performance.
