Jones Cements Her Legacy

Zamareya Jones Has Done It All

Zamareya Jones, a standout high school basketball player, achieved numerous accolades throughout her career, including surpassing 2,000 points, earning the Coaches Association State Player of the Year title as a junior, and being selected as one of the esteemed McDonald's All-Americans, a distinction held by only 17 players in the state.

However, despite her remarkable achievements, Jones had yet to claim a championship – until Saturday.

In the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A girls basketball championship at Lawrence Joel Memorial Coliseum, North Pitt beat East Burke with a score of 76-66 in a hard-fought battle.

Key Players

The game saw Jones and freshman Jordan Speller facing foul trouble, but their exceptional performance remained pivotal for North Pitt's victory. Jones, a future N.C. State recruit, contributed 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Speller added an impressive 31 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists, earning her the game's MVP title.

East Burkes Reflection

East Burke showcased their own talents, with junior point guard Braelyn Stilwell scoring 23 points and sophomore forward Kara Brinkley recording 28 points and 19 rebounds. Despite their efforts, East Burke fell short in their first-ever state final appearance.

Heres What East Burkes Coach, Crystal Bartlett, had to say about the Game

"We just fought for it today and went after it. I remember about everybody in the game attacked the rim at some point, just trying to give their best effort,"

North Pitt's victory marked their fourth state title in four appearances, while East Burke, despite their hard fought effort, fell to the eventual state champions for the fourth time in the last six years.

Both teams displayed sportsmanship, with players from each side receiving NCHSAA sportsmanship awards before the game.
