Comets Set Sights on Tournament Victories

North Stanly's stellar season culminated in a triumphant conference championship, capping off a remarkable 15-1 record and an undefeated run in the Yadkin Valley 1A/2A conference .In their final conference showdown, the Comets secured a hard-fought victory over the Mount Pleasant Tigers, edging them out with a narrow 1-0 win.

The team boasts a roster filled with exceptional talent. Freshman pitcher Sophia Crist has emerged as a standout performer, ranking 11th in the state for win rankings with an impressive 11 wins to her credit. Crist's pitching prowess is evident in her stellar .67 ERA and an astounding 122 strikeouts over 73 innings pitched. Notably, she has also thrown 2 no-hitters, showcasing her dominance on the mound.



Junior Kylie Speight has been a key contributor to North Stanly's success, excelling in various roles on the field. Offensively, Speight has been outstanding, tallying 21 RBI with a remarkable .596 batting average and an OBP of .642, while also showcasing her speed with 7 stolen bases.

Additionally, Speight has displayed her versatility by delivering strong performances as a pitcher, recording 25 strikeouts and 3 wins over 16 innings pitched this season.

"I'm very proud of my teammates, as our first goal of the season was to win the regular season conference championship and we have done that. Sophia has pitched well all season and we as a team have played great defense behind her. On the offense side, we have gotten hits at the right times in order to win close ball games. Our next goal is to win the conference tournament and make a really deep run in the state tournament" -Kylie Speight

Adding to the team's offensive firepower is junior Breauna Speight, who has slugged 3 home runs and contributed 14 RBI, electrifying the crowd and playing a pivotal role in securing numerous victories throughout the season.



Next on the agenda for the Comets is a matchup against the Central Cabarrus Vikings (14-5) on Monday at 6:00 PM, setting the stage for another exciting clash as North Stanly looks to continue their winning ways in postseason play.
