Kina Davis Shows Out
South Brunswick (26-4) waltzed into the state championship game on Saturday with 10 straight wins... and they left with 11. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Kings Mountain Mountaineers (24-2).
Senior show out Kina Davis spent all 7 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only 1 earned run on 3 hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable, having tossed no fewer than 9 strikeouts in 11 consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on junior Carly Clewis, who went 1-for-2 with a triple and an RBI.
On Kings Mountain's side, junior Madeline Huffman put in work both hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 8 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just 1 earned run and 1 unearned run off 7 hits and only 1 walk. Huffman was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with a home run.
South Brunswick's win was their 10th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 26-4. As for Kings Mountain, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of away wins and brought them to 24-2.
