Close Match 4-3 Final Score

The undefeated Oak Grove team (15-0), leading the Mid-Piedmont 3A conference, clashed with Northwest Guilford in a thrilling matchup on Wednesday night. The game was a fierce battle, but ultimately, the Grizzlies emerged victorious with a narrow 4-3 win.

"Northwest Guilford has some of the best and most knowledgeable coaches around and a lot of talent. We knew it would be a tough game but even when Northwest Guilford put the pressure on us, we stayed focused" -Grizzlies Coach Lindsay Winchel

Bel Varadi's stellar performance initially put the Vikings ahead 1-0, but the tide turned in the 5th inning when Carly White and Isabelle Lawrence sparked a crucial 4-run surge for the Grizzlies. Lawrence, who started on the mound for Oak Grove, handed over pitching duties to Mary Peyton Hodge, who entered in relief and secured the winning effort. Coach Winchel stated its been advantageous having two great pitchers that step up when given the opportunity.

Carly White's offensive contributions were pivotal, notching a run and a stolen base while going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. Chloe Smith also played a crucial role in securing the win, scoring a run and going 2-for-4.

Reflecting on the game and standout performances, the Grizzlies Coach Lindsay Winchel expressed that "...both pitchers did a great job on the mound. Carly White came up big with RBIs as well as Chloe Smith. Abby Cruz got our offense started with some great blunts as well."

Despite the setback for the Vikings, Bel Varadi showcased her prowess as a formidable force on the mound. In a commanding performance, she struck out eight batters across six innings, allowing just three earned runs (along with one unearned run) on seven hits. What's even more impressive is that this marked her fourth consecutive pitching appearance with fewer than two walks allowed, highlighting her exceptional control and consistency.

Looking ahead, the Vikings (13-1) will look to bounce back as they host Page on Friday at 6:00 PM, while the undefeated Grizzlies (15-0) will hit the road to faceoff against Asheboro, poised to maintain their perfect record at 6:00 PM.

Looking forward, the Grizzlies are working hard to keep their undefeated record and refining their game before their rival against North Davidson.
