Providence Day Beats Rival; Thursday Rematch

Tuesday night's game between Providence and Charlotte Catholic, two of Southeast Charlotte's top high school baseball teams, was another thrilling chapter in their rivalry. Providence managed to hold off Charlotte Catholic with a close score of 2-1 in what was the Southwestern 4A Conference opener for both teams.

The visiting Panthers (1-2, 1-0) secured the winning run in the top of the seventh inning and maintained their lead against the Cougars (3-1, 0-1) in the final three innings, thanks to the solid relief pitching of junior Parker Jenson and senior Jake McCoy.

Despite the loss, Charlotte Catholic starter Jack Hedrick put on an impressive performance, allowing only two hits and striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings. The two teams are set to face each other again at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Providence
