The Wakefield Wolverines soared to victory in the second round of the 2024 NCHSAA Softball 4A State Championship playoffs, dominating the South View Tigers with an impressive 10-3 final score.


The evening unfolded as a thrilling spectacle for fans, with the game escalating into an intense battle until the Wolverines unleashed a staggering 7 runs in the 5th inning. This offensive explosion was fueled by standout performances from multiple players, notably two who launched balls over the fence, electrifying the crowd and igniting their team's momentum.



Senior Noa Grunow emerged as a rockstar performer, smashing a homer and going 2-for-4, contributing 3 RBI and scoring 2 runs. Another force at the plate was Brooke Masingale, who went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs, solidifying the Wolverines' lead. Maddy Lampman also shined, scoring a run, stealing a base, and going 3-for-4.


On the mound, Dayna Bland delivered a spectacular performance, pitching 7 innings with just 2 earned runs allowed. Facing 29 batters, Bland showcased her pitching prowess with an impressive 10 strikeouts for the evening, adding to her season-long dominance with a 1.21 ERA, 17 wins, and a remarkable 196 strikeouts.



Senior Brooke Masingale is a driving force behind her team's success, attributing much of their achievements to a focused mindset centered on their ultimate goals. The mantra "Road to June" has resonated deeply with the team, fueling their determination and drive. Masingale emphasizes the importance of taking each game as it comes, a mentality that has proven instrumental in their journey.

With their sights set on the upcoming matchup against Lumberton on Tuesday at 5:00 PM, Masingale and her teammates are poised to continue their relentless pursuit of victory.
