Logan Ponnett Is A Monster At Bat

Hoggard's (16-3) 6 game winning streak came to an unfortunate end on Friday with a nail biting 3-1 loss against the Ashley Screaming Eagles. Ashley (16-3) who is ranked 3rd in the state, seemed determined to avenge their previous defeat against Hoggard back in March, and they did just that.

Leading Hoggard is senior show out Chase Bushner who has an outstanding batting average of 0.452. Bushner has been showing teams how it's done with a 0.526 on base percentage and a 0.900 fielding percentage.

Although Bushner is one of Hoggard's strong points, there is a senior who is a mountain of hidden talent. His name is Logan Ponnett. Ponnett has managed to rack up 2 home runs, 18 runs, 16 RBI's, 9 doubles, and a slugging percentage of 0.629.

On Ashley's side, junior, Cole Barnes dominated the mound for all 7 innings, allowing only 1 earned run on 4 hits. Barnes has been consistent, with no more than 2 walks in his last 5 pitching appearances.

Quinn Bentley who is a junior, was exceptional at the plate, scoring 2 runs and stealing 2 bases. Another junior who is taking charge is Drew Potter, contributing by going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI's.

The loss dropped Hoggard's record to 16-3, while Ashley extended their winning streak, winning 8 of their last 9 games to reach a 16-3 record for the season.

Both teams are eager for home field advantage in their upcoming games. Hoggard will face Laney at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23rd while Ashley will defend their home field against West Brunswick also at 6:30 p.m. With both teams averaging few runs allowed, the games promise to be competitive.
